Obituary

Nancy Jean (Balcom) Ganley, 65, a resident of Keene, N.H., passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, after an extended illness.

Nancy was born December 4, 1951, in Watertown, N.Y., the daughter of Alvin and Shirley (Hill) Balcom. She was a 1970 graduate of Monadnock Regional High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Hampshire. On September 21, 1974 she married her high school sweetheart, James E. Ganley. She worked for more than 25 years for Monadnock Developmental Services.

She was a devoted mother, daughter, wife and sister and was overjoyed when she became a “nana” to her two beloved grandchildren. Nancy loved the Christmas season and carrying out the family’s Christmas traditions. In the summer, she enjoyed taking evening walks and bike rides, planting flowers, soaking in the sunlight and watching her children’s baseball and softball games. She always looked forward to the family summer vacations at the ocean in Virginia and Maine. Before having children, she spent summers sailing with dear friends. Nancy was also an ardent Red Sox fan and spent many spring, summer and fall evenings cheering for her favorites, Big Papi and Manny Ramirez.

She is survived by her husband: James “Jim” Ganley, of Keene, her daughter: Emily J. Ganley of Boston, MA, her son: Joseph R. Ganley and two grandchildren: Nolan and Adelyn Ganley of Rochester, NH, her sister: Sharon Balcom and Sharon’s husband Daniel Quirk of Chicopee, MA, two brothers: Donald R. Balcom of South Burlington, VT and David A. Balcom and his wife Laura of Westminster, MD, two brothers-in-law: Gerald Ganley and his wife Deborah of Keene, and Donald Ganley and Joanna Morrissey of Peterborough, several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She is predeceased by her brother-in-law: Richard O. Ganley.

A Memorial Service will be held at the United Church of Christ in Keene, 23 Central Square on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11am. There will be no public calling hours, as this was Nancy’s wish.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsbury Center for Cancer Care, 590 Court Street, Keene, NH. 03431.
